Let It Glo

Freshwater Marine Fantasy

On the south side of Puerto Rico sits a naturally glowing body of water. Organisms affectionately named Swirling Fire glow when agitated, such as by a hand or a kayak paddle. This glow, or bioluminescence, creates an underwater aurora borealis effect and has been named a wonder of the world. Mosquito Bay, named for the pirate rather than the pest, has been hailed as the world’s brightest bay. In 2017, Hurricane Maria ripped through Mosquito Bay, disrupted the bioluminescence and the waters went dark.

The Story Behind the Theme

For a time, these organisms sat, casting a glowing light on the bottom of the ocean floor. The luminosity radiating from the plant life caught the attention of divers in the area evaluating the damage caused by the hurricane. They were able to capture these images of the illuminated plants and underwater treasures. After a while, the balance was rightfully restored in Mosquito Bay. Today, the bay radiates brighter than ever before.

Designed for the Aquarium

Well suited for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums, this engaging design is glowing with potential. Leafy plants offer hiding places for more skittish fish, while the open area above allows space for swimming. This variety of ornaments offers both décor and practicality. With bright, glowing colours and open areas to pass through, this setup is a jungle gym for many varieties of fish.
